Design Your Own Temporary Tattoos

Ever seen those Etsy shops that offer to make you custom temporary tattoos of your likeness for a couple hundred dollars? Well I did, and I refused to pay that. I really wanted them for a wedding favor and I was going to have them, but without that price tag. I then set out on a venture to do-it-my damn self! What I ended up with was 400 tattoos of our faces for $60!! SCORE!

Yep that's right! That's our pretty faces in the form of a temporary tattoo just daring someone to stick it on their...wellllll....who knows what they all ended up sticking to. It was such a huge hit at our wedding! I put them in little boxes with a note that says"

So here's how I did it...

FIrst I found the right app to make our avatars with. What I came up with was the Apple app called iMadeFace. It looks like this:

Doesn't that look like Anne Hatheway? Anyways, so I played around with this app, mixing up different combinations of every characteristic until I came up with what I thought resembled myself and my future hubby. As you can see below, I kept tweaking it. I went from looking like a pantene hair model to looking more like myself.

After I finished Tony's mug I showed it to him, and he wanted to make one small tweak, a more chiseled jawline. Typical Male...

I think that they turned out pretty well!

After getting the images just right, i had to erase the background so that when I sent the images to the printing company, it was just our faces that would be printing onto the temporary tat. After a quick google search, I stumbled upon a great apple app called Background Eraser.

It was so very easy to use. I just used the auto tools to erase the background, and zoomed in to get the fine lines. I also used this app to cut out Ralphie and Weezy's face at the top of my homepage.

After doing that to both of our faces, I was ready to find the right company to send these images to. Just a few minutes of research later and I had found my company! It was called Brandnex. They offered temporary tattoos on the cheap! I needed about 75 tattoos of each face so that each guest could have both of our faces. Brandnex always offers a deal that if you order 100 or more tattoos, then you get another 100 for free! so I ordered 100 of my face and 100 of his face and got another 200 free. That's 400 tattoos, all for around $60 after shipping! Thank you Brandnex! All I had to do was upload the background-free image of both of us onto their website. Easy peasy! The best part of this project was that I did 100% of it from my iPhone.

Boy was i happy when I opened up the mail and saw a big bundle of these-

(Yes that's glitter all over my thumb. I'm glittering my bathroom sink at the moment, I'll be blogging about that soon too)When I told my mother about these tattoos, I'm pretty sure she thought I was insane. She slyly tried to talk me out of having them at the wedding a few times. I was on to her. I ended up rolling them up and squeezing them into little handmade paper boxes that my grandmother's neighbor made for us. I set them out in front of every place setting at the wedding. They were a huge hit and in the end my mom even admitted that they were a great idea (well....in her own words).

My favorite part was when guests put one of each face on the inside of their forearms and they would hit them together and make kissing noises. Here's one of my besties Carroll with them-

Also, a few weeks later, Tony's little 2-year-old cousin sent us a video saying that her tattoos were "broken" (fading off) and she wanted to know if we had extras. Guess what she got for christmas!? Here's a snapshot of the video, you can see the fading tattoos on both of her shoulders. I've watched the video at least a dozen times, it is so cute!

I was told by a couple of moms that their kids would not let them wash the tattoos off of them. It was fun to watch everyone enjoying them so much. Since we have 200 tattoos left over, I think we can just give them out for years to come. We added a few to our gift for a White Elephant christmas party last week that we went to. I mean, who wouldn't want tattoos of our faces for christmas!?
